With the success of Phase I of the project, adjacent to the Albertsons shopping center on Agoura Road, the City of Calabasas is pursuing the restoration of 1.5 mile of Las Virgenes Creek from Agoura Road to De Anza Park. The City has retained Questa Engineering Corp. to design the project which includes bank stabilization, creek restoration, fish barrier enhancement and establishing a developed multi-purpose trail and a natural walking trail along the creek.

Two public hearing were held with the participation of resident and stakeholders on August 6 and November 12, 2015. Most regulatory permits have been secured. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on April 27, 2016. Removal of invasive species and dead trees and bushes began on April 28, 2016 to prepare the ground for future construction.

Project Objectives:  

  • Removal of all non-native invasive species

  • Planting over 900 native trees throughout the creek

  • Bank Stabilization and erosion control

  • Fish passage enhancement

  • Increasing flood protection

  • Establishing multi-purpose community trails

  • Creek cleanup and debris removal
