Informational Workshop on January 4, 2011:  The City hosted an informational workshop on the 2010 California Building Standards Code to collect feedback and provide resources for residents. The workshop focused on the amendments made to the Scope and Administration section of the adopted code. The workshop was held on January 4, 2011 from 6:00.m. to 8:00p.m. in Founders Hall at the Calabasas Library (200 Civic Center Way in Calabasas).  Please click here to see a presentation from the workshop.

Background:  The State of California mandates that the California Building Standards Code is reviewed, revised, and adopted on a triennial cycle. The State passes a building code that sets the building standards for the entire state. The code is next reviewed by Los Angeles County.  Los Angeles County then passes the California Building Standards Code with amendments to the Scope and Administration section of the code. The City of Calabasas is not required to use LA County’s amendments to the building code, however their amendments to the code can be used as a guide in amending the Scope and Administration section of the code. Amendments made to the building code can only make the code more stringent. The building code was last adopted, by the Calabasas City Council, on November 14, 2007.

December 2010 Update:  On November 24, 2010 the Council adopted Urgency Ordinance No. 2010-278-U, adopting the 2010 California Building Standards Code with the City’s amendments. Links to information about the code as it was adopted are provided below, along with the link to the footage of the November 24 Council meeting.
