City of Calabasas, CA
Home MenuSharps Collection Program
Senate Bill 1305 prohibits the disposal of home generated sharps in solid waste and recycling containers. Home-generated sharps are defined as hypodermic needles, pen needles, intravenous needles, lancets and other devices that penetrate the skin for the delivery of medications derived from a household, including a multifamily residence or household.
Do NOT dispose of sharps in the garbage or in the toilet!
Sharps must be disposed of in a proper container. FREE sharps containers can be picked up at LA County designated distribution sites, including S.A.F.E. Centers.
Calabasas residents are encouraged to use local disposal options. Most pharmacies carry low-cost disposal kits. These kits include instructions for use and return so that the waste can be properly destroyed.
Some hospitals and pharmacies accept sharps from their patients.
S.A.F.E. Collection Centers accept sharps, in either a proper disposal kit or in a container that will not puncture, such as a detergent bottle. The container must be clearly labeled “SHARPS”. The nearest S.A.F.E. Centers are:
