BOOK REVIEW
DESERT STAR BY MICHAEL CONNELLY
In this latest Harry Bosch adventure, Harry is again working with Renee Ballard, who has just created the Open Unsolved Unit at the Robbery Homicide Division of the LAPD. Their first assignment is to solve a rape and homicide case from years ago, but Harry also wants the opportunity to reopen an unsolved murder that has always haunted him. Harry is up to his unorthodox methods once again to solve his case, but there is a twist at the end of this adventure that no one saw coming. The Library has this title in book, e-book, e-audiobook and large print.
MESSAGE FROM THE CITY LIBRARIAN, BARBARA LOCKWOOD
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.
Every year we publish an annual report for the library for the last fiscal year. It is available to view on our website if you are interested. Some highlights are listed below.
Last year the Library had:
• 43,759 Library card holders; these include the 13,000 LVUSD digital cards;
• A total collection of 154,268 physical and digital items;
• 212 online and live programs;
• A yearly circulation of 197,755.
Interestingly, digital items checked out almost as much as physical items. Also, the California State Library grant funded programs were very popular. We spent the full $3,000 of the original Zip Books grant. Patrons ordered 190 books which were added to the collection. The State Parks Passes went out 40 times in the first few months we had them.
We will be adding more live programs in the new year. We already increased the number of story times and craft programs for children. The Music Center is providing a free performance of a Doo-Wop Band called The Alley Cats. The Fun Fair, which was primarily a grab and go during COVID, will be adding more games and a live band from the Music Honors Society at Agoura High School. Look at the monthly calendar of events on the Library website for these programs and more.
Best wishes for a happy and healthy year.
That’s all for this month.
