CALABASAS HISTORY PROJECT
The Calabasas Library invites you to explore our historical collection, featuring photos and documents from our archives, such as the Oak Garage in Old Town Calabasas circa 1930, where Pedaler's Fork now stands.
This collection serves as a valuable resource for students, teachers, historians, and researchers. Calabasas has evolved significantly from its dirt street origins in the mid-1800s to the modern city of today, while preserving its old west heritage.
Help us expand this collection by allowing us to scan and return your old photos, documents, and artifacts related to Calabasas and adjacent communities. Your contributions will be archived in your name in perpetuity.
Click here to view a video on the Calabasas History Project
If you have historic photos or items to share, please contact Library Archivist Brian Rooney at Archives@CalabasasLibrary.org or 818-224-1757. Archive hours are Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m., and by appointment.
To view the collection online, click here. More information on the Calabasas History Project can be found here.
MESSAGE FROM THE CITY LIBRARIAN, BARBARA LOCKWOOD
As we head into August we tend to be quieter at the Library as patrons are away for their final vacations or start getting ready for school. But this Summer, like all our past few Summers, the Library has been extremely busy. We’ve had a wide array of programming for all ages. Our last big event was Magician David Skale on July 31st. Calabasas Library’s Online Summer Reading Program “Read, Repeat, Renew” ends on August 4th, but you have until August 5th to log in your titles. Any books and digital materials you read during the summer count. Earn points to be entered in drawings for gift cards! Children can pick up small prizes and a book of their choice by August 11th. The Summer Reading Program is sponsored by the Friends of the Calabasas Library.
There is some good news and some bad news from the State Library. Because of budget shortfalls several of our databases will be going away. HelpNow will be ending on August 24th. On September 14th, Coursera comes to an end. On September 30th, Job & Career Accelerator, LearningExpress Library, LinkedIn Learning and VetNow also will be ending. The good news is the California State Parks Pass program has been extended. Passes for free parking at the State Parks can be checked out at the Library.
In the next newsletter we’ll have information about all programming for the Fall as we restart our story times, Study Buddies and adult programming. Stay tuned.
That’s all for this month.
