The Calabasas Senior Center offers a variety of classes, lectures, excursions, interest clubs, Special Speakers Series, and social events.

CLASSES

Classes focus on entertainment, movies and music, card and game instruction, fitness, hobbies, mind & body, creative arts, art history, personal development and technology. 
A few examples include: American Songbook Composers Series, Opera, Canasta instruction, Mah Jongg for beginners or advances players, Country Line Dancing, Gentle Yoga for Seniors, Zumba Gold, Hot Topics/Current Events Discussion Group, Meditation & Mindfulness, Tai Chi & Qigong, Bring Out Your Inner Writer, Conversational Spanish, Fun in French, Acrylic, Watercolor, Colored Pencil and Oil Painting, American Impressionism, Art of the Italian Renaissance, iPhone/iPad Basics, and Personal Cyber Security.

LECTURES AND DEMONSTRATIONS

Seniors who seek active learning and want to increase their knowledge will find a variety of lectures covering subjects like local and world history, mental and physical fitness, nutrition, popular music and opera, and cooking demonstrations in the Center’s teaching kitchen. 

EXCURSIONS

Half-day and full day excursions are researched and previewed so that attendees will enjoy the experience of an interesting get-away, including transportation and lunch. We have visited art museums, automobile and special interest museums, wildlife sanctuaries, the Hollywood Bowl, whale watching, specialty gardens, and historical missions and legendary California sites.

INTEREST CLUBS

Interest clubs usually meet weekly and are headed by a club leader who can be contacted by participants and those wishing to join the interest club. New clubs may be added if desired by a group of seniors. 

  • Bridge Club: A friendly game of rubber bridge at the intermediate level
  • Canasta Club: Players who already know the game, arranged at tables by skill level
  • Caring Calabasas Club: A service club engaging seniors in providing charitable contributions by collections of goods, crafting needed items and networking with non-profits for distribution of donations to those in need
  • Chess Club: Players may already know the game or would like to learn the game of chess
  • Dinner Club: Each month, a restaurant is chosen by a member and the group enjoys sampling different types of food while enjoying good conversation
  • Hiking Club: Leadership for hikes is rotated and hikers begin at 7:30am enjoying the beautiful wild lands surrounding our community.
  • Trivia Club (Multiple Choice): The game is played on the computer answering multiple choice trivia questions
  • Mexican Train Club: This game, using dominoes, takes 5-10 minutes to learn
  • Photography Club: Photographers of all skill levels are welcome to enjoy various activities ranging from photographic assignments to instructional sessions from local professional photographers, all with the goal of improving their art.
  • Ping Pong Club: Single and double matches are played, depending on the number of participants; paddles and ping pong balls are provided
  • Pinochle Club: For people who already know how to play Pinochle
  • Poker Club: A friendly game of poker and good conversation
  • Scrabble Club: A relaxing, fun, and stimulating group of people who share a love of “word-smithing”; all are welcome
  • Scrabble B Club: Due to popular demand, a second Scrabble group has been formed
