City of Calabasas Code of Conduct
The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to acknowledge the unique role a coach plays in a player’s experience and the sphere of influence he or she has over their development. The League’s first priority is always the welfare of the young participants and coaches are expected to foster an environment that will shape respect for the rules of play and develop characteristics of good sportsmanship. The following guidelines are designed to encourage mutual respect for players, coaches, staff and officials as well as to enforce the policies of the City of Calabasas Youth Basketball League.
This code applies to all players, coaches, officials, parents, and spectators. The coaches are solely responsible for the action of their players, parents, and spectators.

- It is expected that all parents and fans will root for their team. The City of Calabasas will not tolerate negative remarks or gestures towards the opposing team or to the officials. Parents/Spectators are subject to having a technical foul called on them by an official for negative comments.
- It is expected the players will do their best at all times, avoid negative remarks to any player, official or coach, and act in a sportsmanlike manner always, win or lose.
- It is expected players will play and coaches will coach their team, not officiate the game.
- It is expected coaches will control their teams and their players’ spectators at all times. Although the coaches should make an effort to win and have their players try hard at all times, coaches are required to act in a sportsmanlike manner.
- No official, player, spectator, or coach shall lay a hand upon, push, shove, strike, threaten, verbally abuse, or otherwise endanger the safety of any other official, player, spectator, coach or City of Calabasas Personnel. In addition to forfeiture of the game, if applicable, violators will be permanently banned from future City of Calabasas Basketball League play.
- It is expected that any concerns with League operations be addressed in a respectful, calm and productive manner. Overly persistent complaints, pestering correspondence, derogatory social media posts, or actions initiated with intent to intimidate or humiliate any player, official, coach, spectator, or City of Calabasas personnel is prohibited. In addition to forfeiture of the game, if applicable, violators will be permanently banned from future City of Calabasas Basketball League play.
- No food or beverages are allowed in the gyms, except bottled water. If a school or facility personnel sees or finds any food or beverages in the gym, our permit will be revoked for that facility for the remainder of the year.
- It is expected that all coaches, officials, parents, and spectators obey all parking laws at all designated Youth Basketball League facilities.

Coaches Code of Conduct
As a Coach:
- I will do my best to organize practices that are fun and challenging for my players.
- I will do my best to be knowledgeable of the rules of the sport and will teach these rules to my players.
- I will always remember that I am a youth sports coach and the games are for children; not adults.
- I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my players ahead of my personal desire to win.
- I will treat each player as an individual, remembering each one is experiencing their own unique range of emotions, physical abilities and developmental stages.'
- I will do my best to provide a safe playing environment for my players.
- I will lead by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to my players.
- I will not cheat nor engage in any form of unethical behavior that violates League rules.
- I will provide an environment that is free of tobacco, drugs, or alcohol and I will refrain from their use at all youth sports events.
- I will maintain self-control and respect when dealing with game officials and fellow coaches and will accept the judgement of the officials.
- I will never lay a hand upon, push, shove, strike, threaten, verbally abuse, or otherwise endanger the safety of any official, player, spectator, coach or City of Calabasas Personnel.
- I will address any concerns regarding League operations in a respectful, calm and productive manner.
