AT&T LANDLINE UPDATE

AT&T logo

Several Calabasas residents have been concerned about their phone service.  AT&T recently sent out notification letters to its landline phone customers in Calabasas – and many other locations in California – that may leave the impression the utility is stopping all landline phone service in homes.  That is not the case.  AT&T is asking the California Public Utilities Commission to get out of a requirement to have traditional wired landline phone service in homes so it can move to a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service for landlines.  In essence, this would convert traditional wired home phones into Internet home phones.  For the customer, the change is minimal and phone quality is the same.  AT&T is joining several other carriers moving to VoIP phone system because it is less expensive to operate.
