Commission Profile

This environmental organization is composed of a diverse group of volunteers who contribute their time and energy to work as a team to continuously monitor and improve the quality of life for all species and the quality of resources by providing ideas and information that advocate the community's vision for Calabasas, Los Angeles County and the State of California.

The commission advocates sound environmental policy and action in the areas of air quality, land use, water quality, waste management, flora and fauna and resources (water & energy).

The commission provides assistance to the Planning Department and City Council by reviewing and commenting on City ordinances and state mandates and identifies important environmental goals for the City and estimates resources needed to accomplish these goals.

Membership

  1. The commission shall consist of five (5) members who shall be lawful residents of the city and electors during their respective terms of office.
  2. Commissioners nominated by individual councilmembers shall have a term lasting for the lesser of two (2) years or until the expiration of the term of the councilmember who nominated that commissioner. Notwithstanding the expiration of a term, a commissioner shall continue until his or her successor has been appointed.
  3. If a vacancy occurs other than by expiration of a term, a new commissioner shall be appointed in the manner set forth above and shall serve the unexpired portion of the term to which he or she is appointed.
  4. The commission may appoint or reappoint one (1) high school student lawfully resident in the city as a nonvoting commissioner for a one-year term.

Compensation

The commissioners shall serve without compensation, but may receive reimbursement for actual and necessary expenses incurred in connection with the performance of their duties.
