DAVID J. SHAPIRO
MAYOR PRO TEM
It is an honor and privilege to serve as Mayor Pro Tem, and for the past 10 years as two term Mayor, and Council member. These past few years have been challenging -the Woolsey fire, COVID, economic uncertainty, and drought.
When re-elected, I will continue working tirelessly to keep our City Safe, Fiscally Strong, and Business Friendly as well as being an Environmental Leader in Protecting Open Space and working towards a sustainable future. I support a balanced approach to affordable housing. I am a strong advocate for both Seniors and Students. I will strive to maintain the unique character, beauty, and quality of life here.
Our family moved to Calabasas 28 years ago in part for the fantastic educational opportunities for our three children. I maintain my Legal Practice here.
Giving back to the Community is a Way of Life for my family. I served on the Library Commission to help bring about our fantastic Library; the Parks/Recreation Commission to help open most of our City’s parks; Senior Task Force to help create our amazing Senior Center; the Community Center Board; CPHA Board; Teen Court Judge, and coaching youth sports.
Public Safety is one of my main priorities. I will continue working with our Sheriff and first responders to make certain that our residents are safe and prepared for emergencies. As a City Council Liaison to LVUSD, I will again advocate for all our students, their educational needs, and their safety.
As Mayor, I initiated the Mayor’s Youth Council for students to become future leaders. I spearheaded the creation of the Veteran’s Garden to honor all who have served and continue to serve. In 2015, I helped our City implement the Smart Water Irrigation System reducing consumption by 33%. For 8 years, I have served on the City’s Budget Committee, critical in maintaining our fiscal stability.
I actively collaborate with Mayors, other cities, and organizations on a regional and state level for the benefit of Calabasas. As a SCAG Regional Council member, my collaboration with Cal Trans/Metro resulted in significant funding for Calabasas/regional projects including the Lost Hills Exchange. I organized Dr. Lucy Jones’ speaking on Earthquake Readiness. I serve on the Valley Economic Alliance Board and on the State Policy Committee for the League – CA Cities.
Please cast your vote for me. I will energetically lead our City Forward!
Thank you,
David J. Shapiro
