This week, the warnings for a strong Santa Ana wind event, which posed an extreme fire risk, unfortunately proved accurate. We extend our gratitude to the LA County firefighters for their quick response in extinguishing a fire in Malibu. Our thoughts remain with our neighbors to the west affected by the Mountain Fire and the incredible firefighters from the Ventura County Fire Department and other agencies providing support. There have been at least 800 firefighters assigned to this incident.
In response to high fire risk weather, SCE issued additional Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) notices this past week in Calabasas. SCE determines which areas will experience power shutoffs, and the City does not have any input on which circuits remain on or off. We understand how difficult it is to be without power. Our City Emergency Operations Center opened on Sunday, working throughout the week to address City issues and provide residents with timely information. The City also hosted SCE’s Community Resource Team at the Calabasas Community Center to support residents impacted by power shutoffs.
Each time SCE issues a notice, it can be challenging to determine the exact areas affected. Our staff is actively working to simplify this information through a user-friendly map. Please remember to know your circuit to better prepare when these notices are issued: www.cityofcalabasas.com/psps and www.sce.com/psps.
