GULF OF MEXICO OIL SPILL

Gulf Oil Spill

On April 22, 2010, the Deepwater Horizon drilling platform sank in the Gulf of Mexico following an explosion which left 11 people dead and a massive oil spill is threatening to bring environmental catastrophe to the gulf region.  The Louisiana coast will be severely impacted by the estimated 18 million gallons of crude oil leaked as a result of the accident.

In 2005, following Hurricane Katrina, the City of Calabasas sent aid and relief to Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana in coordination with the Spirit of Calabasas Foundation.  Calabasas representatives personally delivered a truckload of relief supplies and computer equipment for schools to Plaquemines along with a $2,500 check to assist in the recovery.

Currently, the City is in contact with representatives from our "Sister Parish" and is ready to offer more assistance in the coming weeks and months as the impact of this massive spill is realized.

This page will be updated as additional information becomes available regarding volunteer and donation opportunities to assist those affected by the Deepwater Horizon accident and subsequent oil spill.
