SAFE & SECURE COMMUNITY COLLECTION EVENT

The Lost Hills Sheriff's Station and City of Calabasas are hosting a Safe & Secure Community Collection Event on Saturday, February 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Lost Hills Sheriff's Station, 27050 Agoura Road in Calabasas. Prevent Identity Theft and Protect the environment by safely disposing e-waste, personal documents, prescription medication and helping others through a clothing drive. This event is open to the public, and will allow residents to dispose of sensitive documents, electronic devices, and old prescription medication in a safe and secure manner. Documents are limited to five boxes (11" x 12" x 15") per vehicle and must be removed from binders and document protectors prior to drop-off.

Additionally, residents can bring any kind of electronic device (computer hard drives, monitors or anything else that plugs into a standard home outlet) for recycling. No large appliances, engines, batteries, light bulbs, or household hazardous waste will be accepted.

Area residents are encouraged to let go of your gently used clothing and unwanted household items and donate them to Goodwill of Southern California through this event. Spring cleaning is a great way to get a fresh start. It also feels great to make a positive difference in your community. When you donate to Goodwill through this event, your donations helps fuel job training programs in our areas. This is a free service provided to the residents of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station area.

For more information, please call (818) 878-5516 or visit www.LostHills.LASD.org.

SIGN UP FOR CERT CLASSES

CERT classes begin Thursday, February 16, 2017. The County of Los Angeles Fire Department Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training was developed through FEMA to provide basic fire safety and life saving skills. Following a major disaster, police, fire and medical professionals may not be able to meet the demand for emergency medical attention. Residents and neighbors may need to rely upon one another to help with immediate life saving needs, particularly in isolated neighborhoods that may be cut off from the main roads. The CERT classes will teach you how to prepare and respond in these scenarios.

Classes will be held at the Calabasas Founders Hall (behind the library) on Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., February 16, 2017 through April 6, 2017. There is no charge for the classes but all sessions must be attended in order to receive a certificate of completion. If you need to miss a class, that class can be made up at a later time.

To register, call (818) 224-1620 or sign up online at www.fire.lacounty.gov/cert.

EXHIBITORS WANTED FOR EARTH DAY CELEBRATION/GREEN EXPO

The City of Calabasas Earth Day Celebration/Green Expo will take place on Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Las Virgenes Creek site on Agoura Rd. (behind the Starbucks at 26531 Agoura Road) in Calabasas. The City of Calabasas invites public agencies, non-profit organization and private companies that provide green services or products to participate in this event. Each exhibitor will be provided with one 6-foot long table to set up educational and promotional materials. A large turnout of Calabasas residents are expected for this event; more than 2,000 people visited the last year’s Earth Day Celebration/Green Expo. This is a great opportunity to educate the public on benefits of being “green”, on sustainability, energy conservation, and ways they can help the environment.

Over fifty exhibitors from all over Los Angeles County and Ventura County will be participating in the event to help attendees take actions that will save them money through efficiency while protecting our planet. The festival is free of charge and the Calabasas Earth Day event will have something of interest for everyone. The festival will also feature numerous children’s activities to teach kids about the environment while they have fun.

Calabasas Earth Day/Green Expo was created to be a day of education, celebration, and action for the natural world in which we live. On April 22, 1970, Earth Day marked the beginning of the modern environmental movement. Calabasas Earth Day/Green Expo sets a clear example for people and businesses how simple lifestyle changes can make a difference.
