The
Calabasas City Council voted to appoint David Shapiro to the City
Council at their meeting of January 18, 2012. Former Council member
Jonathon Wolfson moved out of the city in December 2011, leaving a
vacancy on the Council which was filled by appointment.
State law enables the Council to make an appointment or conduct an
election to fill a vacancy. For cost saving purposes the City Council
decided to fill the vacancy by appointment rather than hold a costly
special election.
David Shapiro currently serves on the City’s Library Commission and the
Joint Powers Authority for the Agoura Hills Calabasas Community Center
and has served in the past on the Parks and Recreation Commission. Mr.
Shapiro will serve out the rest of Mr. Wolfson’s term through March
2013.
Following the meeting Mr. Shapiro stated, “I am excited about my
appointment to City Council. I look forward to doing my best to help
improve our City and work for the betterment of our Community.”
Mayor James Bozajian said of the appointment, “David Shapiro’s years of
active involvement in so many aspects of our community make him
particularly well suited to serve on the City Council. He is an
outstanding choice to fill the vacancy."
